The Benefits of Morning Running for Students
A triathlete on what starting the day with a run does for deadlines, expectations and everything before first period.

This morning, I went for a run, which helped me clear my mind and reflect on how much morning exercise has supported my mental health over the past few months. As a high school student, I have learned that starting the day with physical activity can play an important role in maintaining mental well-being. In addition to academics, I participate in triathlon training as part of my co-curricular activities. Beginning my day with a run helps me manage stress related to school responsibilities, deadlines, and expectations, which can often feel overwhelming before the school day even begins.
Starting the morning with a run allows me to organize my thoughts and approach the day with a calmer and more focused mindset. For students involved in activities such as triathlon training, morning runs are an important way to develop discipline and maintain a consistent routine. This habit helps balance academic responsibilities while strengthening time-management skills and encouraging a positive attitude before classes begin.
Exercise has also been shown to improve concentration and emotional well-being, which is especially important during the demanding high school years. Morning runs provide an opportunity to relieve stress and improve mental focus before entering the classroom. Students who participate in regular morning exercise often experience improved attention and greater resilience when facing academic challenges.
Overall, incorporating morning running into a daily routine highlights the strong connection between physical activity and mental health. For high school students, particularly those involved in athletic programs, this practice represents growth, responsibility, and perseverance. Morning runs demonstrate how healthy habits can contribute to long-term success both inside and outside of school.
